HOW I SHOOT
A plan is just a starting point.
Some pictures can be planned. Others only come to us during the shoot. We don't know beforehand which ones they'll be. What might happen once we find our rhythm?
GET INTO THE FLOW.
01 / NO RUSH
Time to settle in
We have time
- 01A
First, let's get to know each other
You come in and unpack your things. We have a look around and talk for a bit. We give ourselves a few minutes for that.
- 01B
Let's see what you've brought
We go over what we'd like to do, see what might work together and choose a first outfit. That's all we need to start.
- 01C
Time for the first pictures
The first few pictures are just a warm-up. You get used to the camera while I sort out the light. We both ease into it.
02 / IN MOTION
Things start moving
We get used to working together.
- 02A
I'll give you something to try.
A movement, a way of standing or just a small adjustment. We'll see what you do with it.
- 02B
You move. I move with you
You have room to move and try things. I keep seeing something new to respond to.
- 02C
I'm always looking for another angle
I photograph you from different angles. New ideas come out of that, and we can try them straight away.
03 / IN THE MIDDLE OF IT
There's a bit of back and forth
and things take their own course
- 03A
Another look at the pictures
We look through the pictures together as we go. Often, we spot something we'd like to change or try a little more of in the next shot.
- 03B
Which ones do you like?
By now, we're quite at ease with each other. We talk about the pictures and you tell me what you like or what isn't really your thing.
- 03C
One idea leads to another
We follow what interests us and keep going with it. The direction can change along with the idea.
04 / IN THE FLOW
We've found our rhythm
And things just happen
- 04A
We're into it now
You move more freely in front of the camera, and I give less direction. We can respond to each other much more directly.
- 04B
We understand each other pretty well by now
We've found a shared language. A small suggestion or reaction is often all we need to know what to do next.
- 04C
And at some point, we're done
We could probably keep going. At some point we look at the pictures and realise we've already got more than enough.
